Before Your Visit

Write down questions you have about your health.

To get the most out of the time you spend with your doctor, bring a list of questions and concerns that you’ve had since your last visit. Writing down questions will help you organize your thoughts. Sharing this list with your doctor will ensure that he or she addresses all of your concerns.

Find a doctor or regular source of health care.

It is much easier for a doctor to help you when he or she knows everything about you and your health history. To find a good primary care physician, get a recommendation from a friend, family member, or health care professional. You might also want to do a background check by visiting the American Medical Association’s (AMA) Web site.
